Electronic Communication
Per your readings from the Schimmel et al. (2015) this week, provide reasons as to why policies are in place regulating or restricting teacher-student communication on electronic devices. Explain these reasons in detail. Also, consider the ethical arguments suggested in The Ethics of Teaching (Strike & Soltis, 2009/2015). Finally, provide an evaluation of the policies. As you write, consider the following:
- The relationship between a code of ethics and restrictions of particular technologies;
- The role of school-provided means of communication;
- The restriction of teachers’ personal electronic postings or communications that might result in classroom disruption;
- The permissibility of searching personal electronic devices, even those legitimately confiscated.
